The Target Bovine Progesterone Kit allows for easy on-site testing with accurate visual results in 9 minutes. Key benefits are:
Target’s vertical filter design allows for efficient washing of all unwanted blood components. As a result, the color produced is accurately related only to the progesterone in the serum sample.
Progesterone, a natural hormone that circulates in the cow's blood and can be found in the milk, is produced by the corpus luteum (CL) and fluctuates during a normal estrous cycle.
Prostaglandin is used when the cow has a functional corpus luteum (progesterone level is high) in order to induce heat (low level of progesterone).
Progesterone testing of the recipient cow is an important step in an embryo transfer protocol. It is recommended that the progesterone level in the recipient be greater than 3ng/ml for the best success rate.
Intended for veterinary use only. Not for human use.
Result Photo | Color | Progesterone ng/ml | Recommendation |
---|---|---|---|
Bright Blue C1 | 0-1 | No progesterone is present and there is no functional CL. | |
Light Blue C2 | 1 - 2 |
Progesterone is either rising after heat or falling (approaching heat). See Figure below |
|
Faint Blue C3 | 2.1 - 5 |
If a previous test was bright blue, then a light blue result indicates progesterone is rising. The cow has ovulated 1 to 2 days before. If a previous test was white, then progesterone is dropping. The cow is approaching her estrus period and should be tested again 2-3 days later. |
|
White C4 | > 5 |
Indicates a high progesterone level and a functional CL is present. |
